Virtualization is a definitely hot technology in the IT world, but surprisingly, is still not widely adopted among small and medium businesses (SMBs). CRN article “Many SMBs Struggling With Virtualization: Survey” says that SMBs that have already deployed virtualization onto their environments. Only 10% of those that have implemented the technology have not completed their virtualization plans and most have admitted that their are not paying enough attention to their backup and security environments.
It might be because virtualization is a fairly new practice within SMBs, but it is undeniable the advantages of virtualization as opposed to traditional IT practices.
If you’re an SMB and want to learn more about best practices, check out this video. Also check out StoneFly’s patented virtualization technology on their virtualization page.

While aimlessly surfing the web, I came across this interesting article by SecurityInfoWatch.com. The article discusses the trends and popularity of wireless surveillance networks, and it got me thinking …is wireless the next ‘big thing’ in IP surveillance?
It might be difficult to say right now but it’s hard to deny advantages of going wireless, namely –
- The obvious – No Cabling! No cables means easy set up and low maintenance
- Monitor Remotely – on offsite locations or even through mobile devices
- Cost Effective….in the long run – going wireless reduces maintenance cost
- Quality of Equipment – these days wireless cameras are made with the most IP video technology, rivalling their ‘wired’ counterparts

Among the most important recent trends in Storage Networking is the widespread migration to 10GbE. With 10 times the bandwidth of industry-standard Gigabit Ethernet, 10GbE connectivity offers fast data transfers, reduced latency and increased SAN availability. Additionally, 10GbE’s expansive bandwidth also enables multi-Gigabit links with a single cable, eliminating the complexity of port bonding and reducing the amount of hardware needed to achieve multi-gigabit connectivity.
For more information about how to accelerate your SAN while reducing cable clutter, check out this webinar.
